Pet Owners Invited to Dig Up Pets Prior to Building

Owners of deceased pets buried at Paradise Pet Ranch in West Palm Beach, FL are being given the opportunity to relocate their pets prior to the construction of new condos on the former pet cemetery.

Property owner Imtiaz Ahmed, who didn't know about the pet cemetary when he purchased the 5 acre property in 2002, would "prefer [the condos he is building] not be built on top of anyone's beloved pet" according to the Palm Beach Post. The site houses the remains of pets who died as far back as 1950.

The property is surrounded by a rusty chain-link fence, but the gate swings wide. Beer cans and plastic cups litter the entrance. Half of the metal Paradise sign is propped against the fence, and several marble headstones have been broken on the worn dirt path.

Ahmed, the current property owner, doesn't understand how he wound up owning a cemetery. "It's not zoned for that; it's zoned multifamily residential."

But as a pet owner himself, he's not unsympathetic. He is considering placing an ad in the newspaper and posting a sign inviting pet owners to retrieve anything important to them during the next three to six months, before he builds the approved 58 units.
