Other Dog in Saverino Cruz Dog Drilling Incident Adopted

Coffee, the 4-month old puppy found along with Pit Bull Baby when police discovered that Baby had been allegedly abused with a power drill by Saverino Cruz, has been adopted. Baby was euthanized as a result of injuries sustained in the incident, which took place last weekend in Plainville Connecticut.
Coffee, who appears to have been unharmed in the incident, was adopted by a Portland CT woman (Debbie Sheehan) who has several other pets and, according to Plainville Animal Control, an excellent record of caring for her pets.
Both Coffee and Baby belonged to Cruz' brother Enrique. Saverino Cruz allegedly abused Baby with a power drill by drilling holes into the dog's head after Baby escaped from the dogs' barbaric basement cages and bit Saverino Cruz's 8-year old son on the arm. It is unknown what, if any, provocation led to the alleged biting. The child was treated and released from a local hospital.
Both brothers were charged in the incident. The most recent information available indicates that Enrique Cruz has been released from from jail on bail and that Saverino Cruz remains behind bars.
Enrique Cruz, 27, was charged with cruelty to animals, possession of an unvaccinated animal and possession of an unlicensed animal. He was released on $10,000 bail Sunday night and must appear in court Jan. 22.
Saverino Cruz was arraigned Monday in Superior Court in Bristol with bail initially set at $50,000. It was then lowered to $25,000, but he remained in custody Monday night.
